Downtown Regulations

 
 
Downtown Overlay District:
The Downtown Overlay District is essentially the downtown area in the traditional section of town.  Approximately, it is Main Street between Detroit and Washington.  Buildings and site plans in this District are treated differently in terms of setback requirements, landscaping, parking and signage because of the pedestrian nature of the area.
 
 
Downtown Signage
In the traditional areas of downtown, perpendicular blade signs are allowed in addition to wall signs.  For signage regulation District-wide,
 
 
Sandwich Board Signs:
In the Downtown Overlay District, businesses are allowed to have an additional sign located on the sidewalk in front of their store.  For specifics,
 
Sidewalk Restaurants:
Restaurants located in the Downtown Overlay District are allowed to serve food on the sidewalk, in the Village Right-of-Way, with special permission from the Manager.  For more information,
 
Special Parking District:
Businesses located in the Special Parking District (in the traditional area of town) have reduced parking requirements because of the proximity to municipal lots.  Details follow
