About the Downtown Development Authority

Mission Statement

About the DDA
The Milford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established by Village ordinance in 1982 under Michigan Public Act 197. The Milford Downtown Development Authority is a commercial district revitalization organization dedicated to improving the economic viability, beauty and historic significance of the DDA District.
Board of Directors
A thirteen member Board of Directors appointed by the Village Council, is chaired by Dale Feigley.  Village President Thomas Nader serves on the Board and nominates members.  Board Members represent business and property owners, and residents of the community. The DDA Board meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Milford Civic Center, 1100 Atlantic Street, at 7:30 a.m.   The meeting is open to the public.

The Milford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is a commercial district revitalization program dedicated to improving the economic viability, beauty and historic significance of the DDA District and by building an attractive environment in which people can shop, live and play.  We closely follow the nationally recognized model for downtown revitalization: The National Main Street Center, an arm of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. We do this by concentrating our efforts on public improvements through urban design and ordinance language, private developments, economic restructuring and business recruitment and retention.

DDA Executive Director appointed Chair of Michigan Downtown Association

The Michigan Downtown Association (MDA) appointed Ann Barnette, Milford's Downtown Development Authority executive director, as chair of its 13-member board of directors for the 2009-2010 year.  The MDA is a professional organization of more than 250 downtown development directors, Main Street managers and others involved in downtown management.  Barnette, of Milford, has been an MDA board member for 13 years and most recently served as its interim executive director, where she was responsible for revamping its brand, including logo development, messaging and Web site redesign.  During her 15-year tenure as head of the Milford DDA, Barnette has initiated ordinance amendments, written and developed downtown management practices, established the primary funding mechanism for downtown revitalization, overseen new developments and implemented major public improvement projects.
