Commerce Road Pedestrian Project
The Commerce Road Railroad Trestle, roughly the same width as the Main Street Trestle at Canal, only allows vehicular traffic on the north side of the center station, which does not provide for pedestrian access. Currently, the westbound lane is six inches from the side of the abutment and isn’t wide enough for a sidewalk.
The DDA is looking into splitting the east- and westbound lanes on either side of the center station—as it is on Main Street—to provide traffic calming, a center island landscaping feature and most importantly, to allow pedestrian access on the north side of Commerce. Eventually, the parking lot on Commerce west of the railroad tracks may serve as auxiliary parking for the downtown, the Mill Valley and longer term employee parking.
