Commerce Road Pedestrian Project 2022

The Commerce Road Railroad Trestle, roughly the same width as the Main Street Trestle at Canal, only allows vehicular traffic on the north side of the center stanchion, which does not provide for pedestrian access. Currently, the westbound lane is six inches from the side of the abutment and isn’t wide enough for a sidewalk.

The DDA is partnering with the Village to split the east- and westbound lanes on either side of the center stanchion—as it is on Main Street—to provide traffic calming, a center island landscaping feature and most importantly, to allow pedestrian access on the north side of Commerce. Eventually, the parking lot on Commerce west of the railroad tracks may serve as auxiliary parking for the downtown, the Mill Valley and longer term employee parking.  Commerce Road will be resurfaced from Oak Street to Main Street and the underlying culvert that carries water from Pettibone Creek to the Mill Pond will be reconstructed.

The Contract was approved  by the DDA Board and Village Council and construction is slated to begin in early summer of 2022.
